Elderton Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml
The Elderton vineyard has very old deep alluvial soils over limestone with the majority of the Cabernet vines ranging between the ages of 35 to 50 years. With a Mediterranean climate, the Baumé reaches 13.50 to 14.50. A heat spike over ten consecutive days in late January-early February led to the 2009 vintage beginning earlier than ever, with low crop yields resulting. A cool February slowed vintage down to normal, after a frenetic start on the whites. This resulted in well structured reds, with small quantities of ripe, powerful fruit.
The 2009 shows the classic Barossa Cabernet characteristics of chocolate, blackberries and mint and is drinking well today but will cellar well for 10+ years.
