Dona Paula Los Cardos Malbec 750ml
Intense purplish red colour. Sweet, spicy and intense aromas of black fruit, cherries and warm blueberry pie. In the mouth, this wine is soft, velvety and fresh. A great mix with fruit and tannins giving the wine a powerful backbone and a good sense of balance. Carries through to the finish with hints of toast, coffee and anise.
Harvest takes place in the second fortnight of March. The grapes are destemmed and the grains are barely broken. A cold pre-fermentation maceration is carried out to preserve primary aromas. Then, the must is cooled and traditional fermentation is carried out. Post-fermentation maceration lasts between 10 and 15 days. Malolactic fermentation is carried out after maceration.
Food Pairing Notes
This Malbec demands steak – medium rare with lots of peppercorn sauce. Drink it now through 2018.
Malbec may be the world’s most successful grape vine transplant. After having been brought to Argentina by the French in the mid-19th century, this grape varietal has proved not only that it thrives beyond reasonable expectations in the vast Mendoza region, but also that it far exceeds the quality that can be achieved in its original home of Bordeaux, France.
