Wine Profile

Tasting Notes Deep ruby in colour, bordering on garnet at the edge. A fruit and spiced nose with hints of ripe berries, morello cherries, truffles and cedar. The palate is elegant and well balanced, mature flavours of leather, spiced forest fruits and roasted game. Persistent and powerful, the flavours ensure a wine of excellent length.
Ratings Rated 90 Points Robert Parker - "Brotte’s famous non-vintage Chateauneuf du Pape La Fiole du Pape Lot 138 now indicates the vintages included in the blend. This outstanding example has 30% from one-year old Chateauneuf du Pape, 55% from three-year old Chateauneuf du Pape and 15% from six-year old Chateauneuf du Pape. Despite its controversial misshapen form and phony, dusty facade, this medium-bodied wine is serious Chateauneuf du Pape offering lots of tobacco leaf, new saddle leather, kirsch, black currant, pepper and spice characteristics. It should drink well for a decade."
Vineyard Notes This wine, close to our hearts here at Maison Brotte, was created in 1952 by Charles Brotte with the co-operation of local provençale glass and ceramic craftsmen. The unique bottle shape represents the gnarled and twisted vines typical of the region due to their struggle of growing against the Mistral wind. The bottle is exclusive as we are the only winery permitted to use this shape. This wine is a masterful blend of multiple vintages of our best cuvées, aged according to the traditions and know-how of our esteemed Maison. The Fiole du Pape is the most sold bottle of Châteauneuf in the world today.
Production Notes Hand-harvested with berry selection, de-stemmed and crushed before being put into tank. Each variety is vinified separately. A 20 day maceration period, alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in concrete tanks. Blending of dry wines and traditional maturation in 4000 – 5000 litre traditional oak cask/foudre for 1 to 5 years. A rigorous selection takes place before final blending of reserve wines of different vintages to obtain a Châteauneuf of consistent style and maturity. Bottling takes place only once these high standards have been reached.
Food Pairing Notes Enjoy with beef tartare, wild boar, moussaka, wild mushroom risotto, blue cheses, or with a dessert of chocolate fondant in raspberry coulis or a spicy apple blackberry pie.
